2014/2015 The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program Sponsored by MasterCard Foundation and Arizona State University - USA

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program is established the MasterCard foundation and ASU. The scholarship program is only available for undergraduate students from Sub-Saharan Africa who come from the lowest socioeconomic quintiles and show outstanding academic and leadership abilities. This scholarship is a full scholarship and will cover all of the undergraduate fees. Deadline: January 15, 2014.

Program Description
The ASU Foundation for a New American University and The MasterCard Foundation are pleased to announce the availability of The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at ASU. This prestigious scholarship recognizes international students from Sub-Saharan Africa who come from the lowest socioeconomic quintiles and show outstanding academic and leadership abilities.

Those considered for this program demonstrate high academic achievement, exceptional records of service and activity in their schools and communities, and a commitment to return to Africa after their studies to make an impact on social and economic change in their home countries.

Award Amount
The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program will include all the financial needs including the travel cost, housing, food etc.

Eligibility and Criteria
The main criteria of this scholarship award as follow:
  • first-time freshman seeking a bachelor's degree
  • citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • currently living in Sub-Saharan Africa

In addition you will be selected based on the following considerations:
  1. academic achievement and potential
  2. demonstration of service and leadership in school or community
  3. motivation and commitment to return to Sub-Saharan Africa after graduation and give back
  4. verification of disadvantaged socio-economic status

Applicants' Citizenship
Students from Sub-Saharan Africa (Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe) can apply for these scholarships.

Level and Area of Studies
Undergraduate degree in any subjects offered at the Arizona State University

  • four essays

Other Information
  • The selection committee will determine semi-finalists by Feb. 15, 2014. If a student is selected as a semi-finalist, a letter of recommendation will be required. Reference forms will be sent to semi-finalists when they are notified.
  • Recommendation forms must be submitted to The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at ASU no later than March 7, 2014.
  • The selection committee will determine finalists by March 28, 2014.
  • All other candidates will be notified by April 7, 2014.
